Protein hydrolysates: a new way to “fool” the consumer

When you look for a protein hydrolyzate , you expect to pay more for it, or even much more than traditional proteins. It is not uncommon to have to spend 50-100% more for the same quantity because you expect to receive a very high quality protein.

In fact, the consumer assumes that a hydrolyzate necessarily contains 100% hydrolyzate, that is to say 100% predigested amino acids or peptides and therefore 0% proteins.

This belief is completely wrong. But you shouldn't count on major supplement brands to educate consumers on this subject. For what ? Because if the latter knew the truth about protein hydrolysates, he would simply stop wasting his money buying them.

In fact, no hydrolyzate is 100% hydrolyzed . If it was, it would smell strongly of vomit and taste even stronger than vomit. It would therefore be unsaleable.

How to differentiate hydrolysates?

What makes the difference between the different hydrolysates is their degree of hydrolysis, that is to say their level of breakdown into amino acids and peptides.

The market leader produces a whey hydrolyzate with a degree of hydrolysis of only 5 to 7%. Very often, the degree of hydrolysis is even only a few percent. Here we are clearly playing on the consumer's ignorance in order to make them pay more for a protein that is slightly more sophisticated than basic proteins.

It is not for nothing that protein retailers "forget" to specify the degree of hydrolysis of the hydrolyzate they sell: it is because this is low, even negligible. This is clearly a marketing strategy to deceive the user.

What is the degree of hydrolysis of Peptopro ®?

Nutrimuscle has nothing to hide and does not seek to deceive its customers by suggesting that PeptoPro® is 100% hydrolyzed. The degree of hydrolysis of PeptoPro® is approximately 27% .

PeptoPro® therefore has a degree of hydrolysis which is 4 to 5 times higher than that of its main competitor: whey hydrolyzate.

Why not cut Peptopro ® even more than it is?

Because scientific research has clearly demonstrated that free amino acids are not as well digested and as anabolic as di- and tri-peptides (1).
