Popular in Ayurvedic medicine for over 3,000 years, ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) is a medicinal plant known for its effects on stress, immunity, vitality... but also on skin and hair. Used in powder or capsule form, this adaptogenic plant traditionally used as a global tonic acts on internal causes that affect skin and hair beauty.

What is ashwagandha?

Known as Indian ginseng, ashwagandha is a plant from the Solanaceae family. Thanks to its adaptogenic properties, it helps the body better cope with chronic stress, particularly by regulating the stress hormone, cortisol. This medicinal plant is often recommended in cases of fatigue, anxiety, or to support the functioning of the nervous system. But its action doesn't stop there: it also plays a role in blood circulation, hormonal balance, and therefore, indirectly, in skin and hair health.

The benefits of ashwagandha for the skin

Ashwagandha is rich in antioxidants and has powerful anti-inflammatory properties. These assets make it an interesting supplement to combat skin imbalances. By reducing underlying inflammation, it can soothe skin prone to redness, hormonal acne, or blemishes. Furthermore, by helping to reduce oxidative stress, it contributes to slowing down skin aging and preserving skin elasticity. Its richness in amino acids and active compounds also stimulates cellular regeneration, helping to maintain radiant and even skin. In the form of a dietary supplement or ashwagandha powder to mix into a drink, it can therefore be integrated into a global beauty routine.

Does ashwagandha make hair grow?

Hair loss is often linked to excess cortisol, poor scalp oxygenation, or a lack of nutrients. Thanks to its calming and adaptogenic properties, ashwagandha acts upstream on these imbalances. By reducing stress, it helps normalize the hair growth cycle. It also supports microcirculation in the scalp, which improves oxygenation and nutrition of hair follicles, thus promoting hair growth. Preliminary studies also show an action on hormonal regulation, which can be beneficial in cases of hormonally-induced hair loss (such as in postpartum women or during thyroid imbalances).

When and how to take ashwagandha?

Ashwagandha is generally consumed as a dietary supplement, in powder or capsule form. At Nutrimuscle, we use Ashwagandha Shoden®, a high-quality patented extract obtained from the leaves and roots of the plant, and standardized to 35% withanolide glycosides, one of the highest concentrations on the market. Each vegan capsule contains:

  • 215 mg of Ashwagandha Shoden®
  • of which 75.3 mg of active withanolides

This dosage allows for effective absorption and rapid action, whether to reduce stress, improve sleep quality, or support skin and hair health. The formula is minimalist, without unnecessary additives: inulin (from plants) and an HPMC (hydroxypropylmethylcellulose) capsule, of plant origin. And that's all.

💡 It is generally recommended to take 1 to 2 capsules per day, depending on your needs, preferably with a meal for better digestive tolerance.

Finally, pregnant and breastfeeding women must imperatively seek their doctor's advice before any treatment, as with any plant-based dietary supplement.
