Why a specific program for HYROX

Unlike a classic race or traditional strength training, HYROX requires a constant alternation between cardiovascular effort and muscle work.

During a competition, athletes must link:

  • 8 kilometers of running spread throughout the event
  • 8 demanding functional stations
  • a continuous effort lasting between 60 and 90 minutes

This combination creates progressive fatigue that requires specific preparation. Performance depends not only on physical condition but also on intensity management and race strategy.

The pillars of the program

HYROX preparation relies on several complementary axes that are integrated into the program:

  • development of the aerobic base to sustain effort over time
  • functional strength training useful at stations
  • specific conditioning to chain efforts
  • intensity management to avoid blowing up during the race

The program also emphasizes the compromised run, i.e., the ability to run effectively after intense muscular effort.

 

A structured progression to perform

The Nm Training HYROX program is organized into several phases to progressively build performance:

  • a general preparation phase to build the physical base
  • a specific development phase with more volume and HYROX work
  • a tapering phase to arrive fresh and performant on competition day

This progression allows for the development of necessary capacities without overtraining.

 

Two levels of programming

The program includes two training levels to adapt to different profiles:

  • beginner program with approximately 5 sessions per week,
  • intermediate program with up to 7 sessions per week.

A performance fitness test (PFT) is also included to assess your level and adjust your training load.
