What is Milk Protein?

Nutrimuscle's Milk Protein contains the two types of protein from cow's milk: 80% micellar casein + 20% whey.

Who is Nutrimuscle's Milk Protein for?

Nutrimuscle's Milk Protein is for people wishing to vary their sources of protein and amino acids, and, in particular:

When should I consume Nutrimuscle's Milk Protein?

Total protein takes effect quickly after consumption. Blood amino acids levels are multiplied by five after 30 minutes, and blood BCAA (the most anabolic amino acids) levels increase by 150%. Six hours after intake, amino acid levels remain four times higher and BCAA levels are still doubled. Seven hours after consumption, amino acid levels slowly start returning to their initial values. Time for another dose of Nutrimuscle's Milk Protein, or enjoy a high-protein meal. 

First thing in the morning

You'll need a high dose of protein to fill your empty stomach first thing in the morning, because at this time your digestive system takes a lot of the protein from that first meal. Upping your intake ensures that your muscles also receive all the protein they need. (1) This anabolically disastrous situation explains why simply eating protein in the morning almost triples the magnitude of anabolism (2).

Between meals

Take 20 g to 30 g of Nutrimuscle's Milk Protein every three hours in addition to meals to fill any anabolic gaps.

In the evening and at night

To limit overnight proteolysis, taking 30 g of Nutrimuscle's Milk Protein just before bed makes it possible to block nocturnal catabolism and replace it with powerful anabolism. You can even take 20 g of Nutrimuscle's Milk Protein during the night in order to maintain good nitrogen levels.

Before a training session

Taking 20 g of Nutrimuscle total milk protein one hour before exercise helps to minimise catabolism.

After a training session

Take 20 to 60 g of Nutrimuscle's Milk Protein immediately after exercise, especially if you can't eat quickly after your session, or don't want to eat too quickly in order to benefit from the boosted fat oxidation that follows training for as long as possible, or if you intend to do a cardio workout after weight training.
Consuming Nutrimuscle's Milk Protein ensures an anabolic response and inhibits the catabolic effect of doing cardio, without hindering its lipolytic (anti-fat) effect.

How do I take Nutrimuscle's Milk Protein?

Nutrimuscle total protein is flavourless, but has a natural, slightly milky taste. It can be consumed as is or sweetened with Nutrimuscle sucralose. You can also enhance the taste by adding cocoa, coffee, tea, a syrup of your choice, a strawberry, a mint leaf, or in a fruity shake: banana, apple, strawberries, etc...

How do I prepare and consume my proteins?

Gas generated by the consumption of protein powder do not come from the protein itself. It mainly comes from the temperature of the liquid in which it is diluted. Cold liquid, which is often too cold, consumed several times a day in high quantities (1.5 to 2 litres) creates a thermal shock in the digestive system, causing bloating, gas, or even a case of the runs if you're very sensitive. 

At Nutrimuscle, we recommend consuming our protein products in a room-temperature liquid: prep your protein in a bottle in the morning and drink it during the day. This way, you have a smooth, even mixture, because the bubbles have evaporated. So, say goodbye to burps! What's more, the ambient temperature of the contents will not disturb your digestion, so gas is also a thing of the past.

Mixing with other Nutrimuscle products

This study (4) sheds new light on the type of BCAAs that you should take with your protein.
There are two different forms of Nutrimuscle BCAA:

  1. 1. BCAA 4.1.1 Constructors, which is the richest in leucine to optimise anabolism
  2. 2. BCAA 2.1.2 Resistance is rich in leucine and valine to combat catabolism and training fatigue

Casein consumption induces a lesser rise in leucine. That's why we advise consuming it in conjunction with our BCAA 4.1.1 Constructors, which is richer in leucine. It would be less advisable to do the opposite, which would further unbalance the aminogram instead of rebalancing it to make it more favourable to anabolism.

Synergies between supplements 

Nutrimuscle total milk protein demonstrates a synergy with whey protein, but tends to slow down its assimilation.

Adverse reactions between supplements

To avoid bloating, Nutrimuscle total milk protein should not be taken at the same time as potassium bicarbonate.

Quality products

Total proteins, also called micellar proteins, represent a tremendous technical advance in the family of proteins replacing “casein”. If we trace the history of high protein supplements, we see that there has been a constant increase in their biological quality.

The first proteins on the market appeared in the 1940s. They then contained soya. Very difficult to digest, soybeans were replaced 10 years later by calcium caseinate (commonly known as casein but which, due to its artificial aggregation with calcium, was not digested very well). It wasn't until the 90s that whey became popular. Of a much higher quality than "casein", it quickly replaces the latter, which almost disappears. Nowadays, total milk proteins stand out on their own thanks to their digestive qualities and their perfect complementarity with whey.

No chemical or genetic manipulation
A simple chemical manipulation (known as “instantaneousization”) transforms poor quality, completely insoluble proteins into proteins that melt in water. At Nutrimuscle, we prefer to use quality proteins in order to avoid chemical processes. Nutrimuscle's total milk proteins are “non-instants”. Therefore, they do not contain transgenic soy lecithin (GMO) or carboxymethylcellulose, and have not undergone ionizing radiation treatments.

Why is a lot of protein processed by calf rennet?
This manipulation occurs during the manufacture of the cheese. Rennet is essential for altering the molecular structure of milk proteins so that they become cheese. Technically, rennet is said to be used to flocculate the casein part of milk. The latter is therefore contaminated by calf rennet while its amino acids have been degraded during the reaction of transformation of milk into cheese.

At Nutrimuscle, we only use noble material for our total proteins. They come directly from milk by cold ultrafiltration. Thus, the total proteins of Nutrimuscle milk are therefore not treated with calf abomasum. The integrity and the quality of the amino acids are therefore not altered, and no animal residue foreign to the milk is present. Nutrimuscle total milk proteins are therefore ideal for vegetarians who wish to supplement themselves with protein.

Benefits of Total Proteins in more detail

Action on proteins

From this double origin, the total protein is at the same time:

  • Anabolic thanks to the rapid assimilation of whey;
  • Anti-catabolic thanks to the slow and lasting assimilation of micellar casein.

Scientific research shows that taking 43g of casein increases anabolism by 31% while reducing catabolism by 27% (2).

Good protein absorption
Although they have a molecular weight (23,000 daltons) significantly higher than a whey (15,000 daltons), the digestibility of the total proteins of Nutrimuscle milk is almost perfect, since it exceeds 95%. In theory, the higher the molecular weight of a protein, the worse its digestion. But this is not the case for total proteins: in contact with stomach acid, Nutrimuscle total milk proteins form a precipitation which will slow down their digestion. It is this slowing down which allows their good assimilation and explains their long duration of action.

Muscle mass gain
A new study compared the behavior of a native micellar casein when it is used:

  • Right after weight training (8 heavy sets for the thighs in this study);
  • On an empty stomach, at rest.

In 40 minutes, taking 20 g of native micellar casein increases the post-workout blood leucine level by 50% and the resting blood leucine level by 100%. One hour after the intake, the level of leucine in the blood is almost back to its starting point after training and 50% higher than at the start with rest (1). These differences cannot be explained by slowing down or malabsorption of the protein due to training. They reflect a more intense use of amino acids due to the stimulation of muscle anabolism by physical effort.

The study also shows that compared to a resting situation, for the same amount of protein, the muscles receive 56% more amino acids when the subjects used the protein supplements right after training. This better absorption partly explains why proteins are 16% more anabolic after exercise (1). (Note: a whey or total milk protein would have given better results due to their higher absorption rates.)

Due to this more pronounced anabolism which consumes proteins, the level of amino acids in the blood will drop much more quickly after exercise than at rest. You must therefore eat within an hour of your post-effort snack. On the contrary, other studies have shown that calcium caseinates seem refractory to this anabolic stimulating effect of training: the amino acids stagnate in the blood, inert, instead of acting in the muscles (2). . It is therefore necessary to regain protein fairly quickly after training, including if you use a so-called slow protein (native casein), because the effort somehow accelerates the rate of protein assimilation. This, not during the absorption phase, but at the level of its use by the muscles.

Effectiveness against extra pounds

When you go on a diet to lose fat, you have to review your entire food program as well as the nature of your supplementation. The number 1 protein when looking to lose fat is total milk protein (also called casein). In fact, in order to reduce your calorie intake, you need to space your meals more apart in order to eat less. This spacing can be done by going from a whey (protein with rapid digestion) to the total protein of milk (protein with slow digestion which will limit the catabolism).

On the contrary, to gain lean muscle, it is advisable to favor the whey isolate which, thanks to its speed of digestion, makes it possible to multiply small anabolic meals. In this context, total milk protein becomes counterproductive, because it does not allow eating as frequently as with the isolate, due to its slowness of action. However, this remark is only true during the day. At night, total milk protein helps limit nocturnal catabolism whether we are gaining muscle or losing fat.

A new study strengthens the status of total milk protein as an anti-fat protein (3).
Compared to whey, total milk protein increases the use of our own fat for fuel. In other words, thanks to the total protein intake from milk, our body burns its fat more readily than with a whey providing as many calories.

Total milk protein, by favoring the use of lipids, will protect the integrity of muscle mass, which reinforces its status as an anti-catabolic protein. Destroying your fat being the number 1 goal of the diet, total milk protein therefore proves to be our best ally during a calorie restriction.

Healthy digestive system by taking Bacillus Coagulens
The goal of taking Bacillus Coagulans GanedenBC30® is to:

  1. Increase the assimilation of amino acids, in particular for key amino acids for anabolism such as leucine and especially glutamine, which it is very difficult to assimilate correctly.
  2. Optimize health: the proliferation of pathogenic bacteria in the digestive system generates a large number of toxic substances. By fighting against these bad bacteria, Bacillus Coagulans GanedenBC30® induce surprising effects against joint pain, poor sleep, etc.
  3. Fight against digestive disorders such as bloating that can be felt with a high calorie diet or diet, both particularly rich in protein. At least 100 million Bacillus Coagulans spores must be used per day for effects to occur (2).
