What is collagen peptide?

Collagen is the protein that provides joints, muscles, and tendons with stability, strength, and elasticity. It is also responsible for regenerating cartilage.

Peptan® 2000 Daltons is a type-1 collagen peptide, similar to that found in human tissue. It is a pure hydrolysate containing more than 97% protein, derived from cow skin collagen.

Nutrimuscle's Collagen Peptide Peptan® 1

The collagen molecules of Peptan Nutrimuscle peptide collagen are hydrolyzed (cut) to reduce the size of these proteins as much as possible, in order to facilitate their digestion and to increase their regenerative efficiency for the tissues (tendons, joints and skin).

Indeed, unlike food collagen or gelatin which are very poorly assimilated by the digestive system, collagen hydrolysates are absorbed at more than 90%. Peptan® is therefore digested, as it is, without its peptides being degraded during digestion.

Studies show that the smallest collagen hydrolyzate molecules (less than 10,000 kilodaltons in size) are the most effective for regeneration.

It is for this reason that the molecular weight of the new Peptan Nutrimuscle peptide collagen increases to 2000 daltons against 5000 daltons for the old version.

Research shows that this improvement brings three major advantages related to the reduction of the molecular weight of hydrolysates. Indeed it:

  • improves their antioxidant properties,

Who is Nutrimuscle Peptan collagen peptide for?

When should I take Nutrimuscle collagen peptide?

It's best to take Nutrimuscle Peptan collagen peptide twice a day (morning and evening) in order to cover your joint precursor needs throughout the day.

We recommend taking Nutrimuscle Peptan collagen peptide with a meal or snack, and ideally with by protein. With collagen being a protein, consuming it on an empty stomach would facilitate its use by your body to build muscle, yet it has fewer benefits than a conventional protein.

Our blood naturally contains virtually zero hydroxyproline. This level does not increase after taking conventional protein. On the other hand, it jumps following the consumption of collagen hydrolysates (1) and remains high for 4 to 6 hours before falling back down.

How do I take Nutrimuscle Peptan collagen peptide?

Peptan® 2000 Daltons is tasteless and can easily be added to your protein or simply taken mixed with water, fruit juice, or another drink. If you don't mix it vigorously, Nutrimuscle Peptan collagen peptide has a tendency to clump together and form a ball. This does not alter its effectiveness in any way, so it doesn't matter if it isn't perfectly dissolved.

Peptan® 2000 Daltons does not act as a temporary painkiller to be taken only when pain arises. It works slowly but deeply on the joint, facilitating regeneration. This can only happen gradually.

Nutrimuscle's Peptan collagen peptide is therefore not formulated to be used in the short term. On the contrary, it should be taken as part of a long term treatment, or even permanently, for as long as you are doing intense weight training.

Nutrimuscle Peptan collagen peptide is not a muscle protein

Collagen hydrolysates are not a good source of protein to nourish and build muscle. Their only purpose is to nourish the joints and tendons.
Conversely, conventional proteins (whey, total protein, or egg protein), although they effectively nourish the muscles, are not adapted to facilitating tendon or joint regeneration.
These disparities between the different protein sources are mainly due to the composition of the aminogram. Nutrimuscle Peptan collagen peptide is low in essential amino acids and does not even contain cysteine. It therefore does not correspond to the amino acid profile the muscles need to gain mass.
For the muscles, the main triggers of anabolism are BCAAs. Whey is the most anabolic protein because it contains a lot of BCAA. Nutrimuscle Peptan collagen peptide is quite low in BCAAs. However, it contains 11.5% proline, 11.4% hydroxyproline, and more than 20% glycine. These are the three amino acids that constitute the main raw material for collagen synthesis.
Nutrimuscle Peptan collagen peptide also contains a very rare but essential amino acid for collagen: hydroxylysine (see below). The collagenic origin of Peptan® 2000 Daltons explains its special amino-acid composition. These serve as precursors to the collagen that makes up, among other things, our joints. Following consumption of collagen hydrolysates, these amino acids were found in huge quantities in the joints (1-2).
Peptan® 2000 Daltons is therefore the ideal precursor for cartilage and tendon regeneration. It in no way duplicates milk or egg proteins, which work specifically on the muscles but neglect joints and tendons. On the other hand, collagen hydrolysates offer benefits for joints and tendons that conventional proteins cannot provide (3).
No other form of protein is capable of activating the production of collagen in joint cartilage as well as Peptan® 2000 Daltons. Nutrimuscle Collagen peptide doses should not be counted in the calculation of your daily protein intake.

Effects of Nutrimuscle Peptide Collagen

Once in the blood, Peptan® 2000 Daltons accumulates directly in target tissues such as joints (1). Once integrated, Peptan® 2000 Daltons acts in two distinct ways on cartilage anabolism:

  • Directly: Peptan® 2000 Daltons is used as raw material for cartilage;
  • Indirectly: Peptan® 2000 Daltons stimulates the synthesis of new collagen filaments (2).

On this last level, Peptan® 2000 Daltons is all the more effective when the joint is damaged (by muscular training, for example) (2). Studies show that the smallest collagen hydrolyzate molecules (less than 10,000 kilodaltons in size) are the most effective for regeneration. It is for this reason that Peptan Nutrimuscle peptide collagen contains molecules of collagen hydrolysates of approximately 2000 kilodaltons.

Physiologically, this is a positive feedback. When the joint is damaged, small molecules of collagen will be expelled from the cartilages (phenomenon of catabolism). These collagen molecules will serve as a signal to trigger the production of new collagen (anabolic phenomenon) in order to repair the joint. Unfortunately, the extent of catabolism often outweighs anabolism. Otherwise, we would never have joint pain.

The use of Peptan Nutrimuscle peptide collagen aims to accelerate anabolism by making the joints believe that they are degrading much more than they actually do. The phenomena of cartilage synthesis are all the more increased since Nutrimuscle peptide collagen also provides all the raw materials the body needs to regenerate its joints.

Joint and tendon recovery in athletes

After a muscular effort, the degradation of the collagen of the joints and tendons intensifies. Blood elevations of hydroxyproline and hydroxylysine reveal this articular and tendon catabolism. Either way, the levels will almost double for more than 48 hours after a workout (12).

Instead of being reused to resynthesize cartilage and tendon, hydroxyproline and hydroxylysine will be massively eliminated in the urine. After a traumatic weight training session, elevations of these two amino acids in the urine are noted for more than 9 days (13). It is imperative to compensate for these losses in order to hasten joint and tendon recovery. Otherwise, it is normal that we end up having pain since we only recover with difficulty and partially.

The repair rate of tendon collagen is half that of muscle collagen (14). Tendon recovery is therefore more laborious and longer than muscle recovery. Thanks to Peptan® 2000 Daltons, you will be able to accelerate tendon anabolism, which reduces the risk of suffering from tendonitis. This effectiveness is well established scientifically. For example, young athletes suffering from various joint pains (knee, shoulder, elbow, back, etc.) received 10 g of collagen hydrolyzate per day or a placebo for 24 weeks (15).

80% of hydrolyzate users noticed a decrease in their pain after 10 to 12 weeks of daily use. Compared to the placebo group, the pain at rest was halved thanks to the collagen hydrolysates. That felt during a race decreases by 55%. The difference between hydrolysates and placebo was really obvious after 24 weeks of use.

Fight against osteoarthritis

Collagen hydrolysates are used successfully against osteoarthritis (4 to 11). Indeed, this degeneration is characterized by a decrease in the ability of the joints to produce collagen. Collagen hydrolysates are therefore ideal for combating this decrease in local cellular anabolism.

Peptan Nutrimuscle Peptide Collagen works best the more you have pain in the joint and you don't eat meat often (10). On the other hand, unlike medicated painkillers, Peptan® 2000 Daltons does not induce any side effects or allergies (10).

Preserves the youthfulness of the skin and bones
The extracellular matrix that makes up the skin contains collagen and hyaluronic acid. It is 80% of the type 1 collagen found in the skin. This collagen gives it firmness and flexibility.

On the skin level, oral intake of Peptan Nutrimuscle peptide collagen provides collagen and increases hyaluronic acid synthesis, which helps the dermis stay young by fighting wrinkles and dryness (16). Peptan Nutrimuscle Peptide Collagen will also promote hair growth and nail health (17-18-19). It also inhibits bone loss, which preserves the integrity of the skeleton (20).

What to choose ? Collagen peptide, N-acetylglucosamine or chondroitin?

Of the three joint protection supplements, Peptan Nutrimuscle Collagen Peptide is the most universal, as it contains the amino acids that make up cartilage and tendons as well as glucosamine and chondroitin. Unlike the other two supplements, Peptan Nutrimuscle collagen peptide will work on the joints and tendons while N-acetylglucosamine and chondroitin sulfate essentially repair the joints.

For people who are allergic to seafood, Nutrimuscle Collagen Peptide is ideal, because unlike glucosamine, it is not a shellfish extract. Peptan Nutrimuscle collagen peptide can therefore be used without any problems. If you want to target the joints only, N-acetylglucosamine is ideal, reinforced, if your budget allows, by chondroitin sulfate.

However, for total protection, it is preferable to combine Nutrimuscle collagen with N-acetylglucosamine, chondroitin sulfate and collagen peptide type IIm in order to act in depth on both the tendons and the joints. In this case, it is a coherent trio working in synergy, in which no supplement duplicates the work of another.
