Description

Dosage

Taking citicolin does not cause any long-term side effects (13). In most studies, the dosage of 1 gram per day is often used.
The lowest dose is 250 mg per day, while the highest is around 2 g.
Studies show effective fatigue reduction with a daily intake of 500 mg.

Why choose Nutrimuscle Cognizin® Citicoline?

Although there are many Citicoline manufacturers around the world, more than 95% of these producers are located in China.
Nutrimuscle has selected a pharmaceutical-grade citicoline produced by the Japanese leader in high-end nucleic acids, Kyowa Hakko, which owns the Cognizin® Citicoline trademark.
Nutrimuscle's Cognizin® Citicoline is:
developed via a patented fermentation process - pre-investigated in numerous clinical studies - allergen-free, pure, and stable over time

What is Citicolin?

After long being classified as a vitamin under the name 'Vitamin B7', citicolin is now considered an essential nutrient. It is a precursor of the phospholipids that form our cell membranes.
Citicoline consists of two molecules: choline and cytidine. Choline is best known for the effect it has on cell health.
As an essential nutrient, choline also serves as a precursor to the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. Along with cytidine, a precursor to UTP (uridine triphosphate), citicoline acts as a performance booster.

What are the benefits of Citicoline?

What are the advantages of citicoline for athletes?

The ultimate goal of citicolin supplementation is not just to provide the body with the choline that is essential to your good health.

Some of the choline will serve as a precursor to phosphatidylcholine, a lipid that makes up our cell membranes.

Another part serves as a precursor to acetylcholine, a very important neurotransmitter for the muscles and brain.

Acetylcholine controls muscle contraction force. During a workout, acetylcholine reserves are depleted, which is why your muscles gradually loose strength. That's muscle fatigue!

Citicoline certainly effective, with studies underlining its facility in reaching the nervous system, where it then serves as a raw material for neurotransmitters. Thus, citicolin's ability to restore acetylcholine levels is extremely good (7).

In this context, citicoline supplementation has two goals:

  1. To increase strength and endurance during training.
  2. To accelerate the resynthesis of acetylcholine destroyed by exertion as well as to repair damage to the myelin sheaths in order to accelerate neural recovery between sessions (8 - 9).

Benefits of citicoline for brain performance:

Acetylcholine also boosts brain performance. Thus, senior citizens with a higher than average choline intake benefit from better cognitive performance.

On the other hand, senior citizens with the least choline in their blood are also those who suffer from decreased cognitive performance.
Studies show that the use of citicolin among adults boosts their attention span and speed of analysis (10 - 11 - 12).

How do I take citicolin?

Citicolin powder tastes very good, so it's a great choice. We advise taking it at least 2 hours before training or even in the morning to get your day off to a good start.

While the two citicoline metabolites appear in the blood in less than 30 minutes, the peak increase is only reached 2 or 3 hours after consumption.

Testers' and customers' opinions

Nutrimuscle tester

"The taste is pleasant, the miscibility is very good and the absorption easy. As far as the effects are concerned, I felt a better concentration during my work and less eye strain."

Nutrimuscle tester

"Great product! Citicoline is extremely useful for computer scientists and even more so for computer students who spend their day in front of screens."

Nutrimuscle Tester

"During bodybuilding exercises, citicoline allows me to be more diligent on the movement, and to better feel the quality of execution, especially at the end of the series. Where I feel the most improvement is in the practice of mountain biking during fast and technical passages my piloting is more precise and seems easier to me".

What are the differences between a stimulating booster and a non-stimulating booster?

The best known stimulant is caffeine. It works quickly to increase strength and endurance. It generally takes effect on your entire body. If you take too much, stimulants will increase your heart rate, cause irritation, and prevent sleep.

Aside from sports, caffeine is most often used to avoid drowsiness when you don't want to sleep. This stimulating effect gradually fades away in a few hours. It's time to consume more to benefit from the stimulating effect once more.

A non-stimulating booster acts a little less quickly over time (a few hours or even days rather than minutes).

On the other hand, the effect is long-lasting over time, even if you don't use the booster every day. It also increases strength and endurance without affecting your heart, mood, or sleep.

If taken at night, it won't keep you awake. It works not only during physical exertion to delay the onset of fatigue, but also after training to accelerate your physical recovery: a fundamental effect that stimulating boosters do not have.

These two forms of booster each have their advantages and disadvantages. Caffeine is ideal for training early in the morning when you're still a little sleepy. However, if you exercise late at night, taking caffeine can accentuate the sleep disturbance that already occurs when you work out late.

This is, however, very much theoretical as a distinction. In reality, the boundary between the two types of booster is not as clear-cut and distinct. However, supplements such as the Natural Bio Booster and the Green Caffeine Bio Booster are very clearly stimulants. On the contrary, creatine is a non-stimulant booster.

Citicoline also belongs to the non-stimulant booster category.

'Stimulating' and 'non-stimulating' synergy boosters

The advantage of these two types of boosters is that they combine very well since their respective effects are entirely different.

This is typically the case for the Green Caffeine Bio Booster and citicoline.

Two supplements in one: choline + cytidine

Once in the blood, citicoline is hydrolysed (cut in two), becoming choline on the one hand and cytidine on the other (1 - 2 - 3).

Cytidine is converted into uridine. The purpose of uridine is to increase the level of UTP in the muscles. Although little known, UTP acts as an energy source for muscle contraction in the same way as its much better known 'colleague' ATP (adenosine triphosphate).

Raising UTP immediately increases muscle strength and endurance and greatly delays fatigue. It was a very popular supplement in the 1960s to 1980s that has since been neglected despite its great effectiveness (4). Thanks to citicoline, it is now possible to take it again at a very moderate cost.

Why citicoline instead of choline?

Although citicoline is a more expensive form of choline, it has several advantages over simple choline. Unlike simple choline, the choline in citicoline is not released into the intestine, which prevents the choline molecules from being converted into TMA (trimethylamine).

What are the links between TMA and cardiovascular disease?

A high level of TMA in the blood is correlated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease without it being clear whether it is because of a high TMA level that the risk of cardiovascular disease is increased or whether the TMA level is high because of cardiovascular disease. This is just a statistical correlation that is not very well explained since eating fish regularly raises TMA levels far more than any supplementation while reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease.

In any case, all the choline that is converted to TMA is lost. It is therefore important to minimise this conversion in order to increase the effectiveness of choline supplementation. Of all the forms of choline, citicoline is the least likely to increase TMA levels. It is therefore through citicoline supplementation that one will increase one's choline level most effectively (5). Moreover, studies have shown that its assimilation rate when taken orally exceeds 90% in humans (6).
